What is it?
The Reachback unit is an Iridium Inverse Multiplexer, which simultaneously combines 4 Iridium channels to increase the total effective transmission bandwidth, for over-the-horizon, worldwide, on the move, beyond-line-of-sight, transmission of voice, video, and data.

The Reachback unit can be used as multiple satellite telephones, utilizing the Iridium service to connect to other mobile users, or to virtually anywhere worldwide through the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN).

The Reachback unit can be integrated into a variety of systems such as sensors, aircraft, vehicles, ships, and end user terminals (EUTs), or can be operated as a standalone device.

Why do you need it?
The Reachback unit provides the capability to send the first hand information via Iridium system to key government personnel and commanding officers to make instant and critical decisions.

Corporations and the command control centers can transmit data and voice to the operators at the remote or disaster sites via the Reachback unit. The remote operators or the remote teams, such as the remote rescue teams, can apply the Reachback unit to send photos, images, data, or voice to the headquarters or the command control centers.

The Reachback unit offers connections to control various remote sensors like a camera, motion detector, or weather monitoring equipment and to retrieve remote sensor data. This capability allows operators to monitor remote sites activities. In addition, an automatic call-in connection can be set-up with the Reachback unit for the remote sensors to send data to the commanding control centers or operation centers.

The Reachback unit enables the remote operators to establish a connection to the Internet or a corporate server to access e-mail, run web-based application, or access database.
